I’m excited to share with you the big wrap-up to the Dream Room Dream Team collaboration with Bali Blinds + Olympic Paint! In case you’re only joining in now, we’ve spent the last handful of months helping three families transform one room in each of their homes through the power of paint and window treatments. Available exclusively at your local Lowe’s Home Improvement, you too can create your dream room in 3 simple steps—starting with a color palette, landing on the perfect window treatments, and, finally, rolling up your sleeves in the same way we were able to polish those rooms into spaces the families will enjoy for years (and years!) to come. We couldn’t be more thrilled for each of them.
The best part? The Bali Blinds + Olympic Paint Dream Room Dream Team wants to lend you a hand by giving away a Dream Room makeover! By entering here, you can win up to $2,200 in paint and window treatment products to make over a space in your home. The sweepstakes is accepting entries November 1–15, so be sure to get your name in right here! And if you’re wondering just how big of a difference those two things can make, let’s dive into the story of the three rooms we’ve completed.
ROOM #1: PETE + RACHAEL’S FRONT ROOM
When you first saw Pete and Rachael’s front room, the walls were an off-yellow, a paint color they initially chose to warm up the room. The space has amazing bones—just look at those windows!—but they were never fully satisfied with their choice of color. In addition, the windows, while beautiful, were completely bare, causing them to avoid this room in the evenings.
Their number one concern with the bay window was lack of privacy, but they still wanted to allow in as much light as possible. In their case, motorized Bali Sheer Shades were the perfect option! After selecting several free samples online, they landed on 2″ Westford Vanilla, a pretty, creamy white. For the walls, I had them choose a few samples from the Olympic paint line and paint large swatches on foam board. The clear winner was Olympic’s Intuitive, a medium warm gray that would give them the cozy feeling they were looking for all along.
Pete also took on the challenge of painting all the moldings and fireplace in the room. For this, we chose Olympic’s Delicate White, a clean, fresh white that helped to brighten things up and provide the perfect contrast against Intuitive. Once the paint was rolled and the blinds were installed, we laid out a bold new rug and added a few accessories to make the room as inviting as possible!
ROOM #2: DAVE + CARMEN’S MASTER BEDROOM
Dave and Carmen’s bedroom was painted a deep, cool gray before they moved into their home. To keep out the bright morning light, Dave installed faux wood blinds, but he admitted that the messy cords were always an issue. Between the dark paint color, heavy wood furniture, and espresso wood floors, the entire room felt weighed down:
We have cordless Bali Tailored Roman Shades throughout our home, and they both let me know that they would love a similar look in their bedroom. I was happy to oblige, but I encouraged them to consider something with pattern! After sifting through countless rounds of samples, we all agreed that Shiraz Nightingale—a soft cream with black florals—would look stunning against bright white walls.
Dave painted the room Olympic’s Delicate White, and the transformation was almost staggering! The Roman shades are a beautiful punch of pattern into the room, and I was sure to include a blackout liner for weekends and lazy mornings. New bedding helped brighten things up as well, and a large mirror above the headboard bounces light around the room. Can you believe that all the furniture is the same, and yet the space feels so much lighter?
ROOM #3: JOE + MEG’S MASTER BEDROOM
Finally, we have Joe and Meg’s bedroom. They moved into their home in August, and when we got started, the walls had been painted a contractor’s beige by the previous owners and the windows were outfitted with mini blinds.
This duo has a strong design sense, and they knew right away that their windows would look best with Bali Natural Shades. The sample that won us all over was Faroe Twine, a soft neutral that would add a big splash of texture into the room. For the walls, Meg was ready to go (really) bold, and we were practically giddy with excitement over Olympic’s Midnight Clover!
The results speak for themselves! After the painting was completed, Meg and Joe kept the rest of the room light with white linens and a neutral rug. They left the nook in their wall a bright white, which turned into the sweetest little dog bed area for their pup, Jack. The deep green of the walls against the glossy white trim is dramatic yet sophisticated, and the natural shades feel casual and welcoming. I think we nailed it!
If you’re feeling inspired, I encourage you to enter the Dream Room Dream Team Sweepstakes for a chance to transform a room of your own! Entries will be accepted through November 15, and you can get started right here. Good luck!
